A brief history: Founded in 1252 by statesman Birger Jarl, Stockholm has been the capital of Sweden since 1436. Today nearly a million residents live in the city, with fifteen million tourists each year.
Swedish customs: A couple Swedish customs prevelent in the city are taking off shoes before entering a house and to accept the food and drink a guest's host might offer.
Historic buildings: Stockholm has hundreds of historical buildings, a few popular ones are Stockholm City Hall, the Riddarhuset, and the Royal Swedish Opera.
